seeing colors
was created during a spontaneous trip to San Francisco in March, 2023
During my first day in the city I came across a cute store in Japantown that had a wall filled from top to bottom with all sorts of tote bags. Four of them caught my eye. They were all white with colored text and matching straps. Each bag had its own assigned color (green, orange, yellow, and blue), and a paragraph about the color and what it represents. I bought all four.
Those bags had a lasting impression, they forced me to see colors in a light I didn’t expect. The bags were so simple, so minimalistic, yet they reminded me that colors are present in day-to-day life and we tend to overlook them. This probably sounds insane, everyone “sees” color. But, does everyone see color? It was disappointing to realize how insensitive I was to colors – something we ought to appreciate more. This led me down a path of being hypersensitive to what colors were surrounding me and what colors could evoke from me. What response could they obtain? This is where I ended up. In an effort to appreciate the reasons things are beautiful, Seeing Colors is a tribute to… well, seeing colors.
