a lost hollyhock
was created to start a series with the project A Belated Valentines.

A Lost Hollyhock was intentionally shot with dead and dried out flowers. It was meant to symbolize someone who is lost… someone burnt out… someone exhausted. It was meant to be someone hurt, but they finally felt heard. It was modeled after how I felt after my first semester of college. I had left school to go home to Hawaii for my second semester.

During that time I picked up a job whilst continuing my classes online. I was burnt out, exhausted, and for a few months I felt extremely lost. I wasn’t sure I wanted to go back to my old university. I didn’t even know if I wanted to continue to pursue a degree.

However, at my lowest, as I was finding a way to turn my life around, I met someone who heard me. I found people that inspired me, and I met people that encouraged me. A Lost Hollyhock symbolized that moment in my life. It was taken when I was just finding my way again. It’s a nice reminder that life is a rollercoaster, there’s ups and downs… twists and turns… but you’ll make it. You’ve got this, and so do I.
